We are showcasing people who buy Midcentury at our store. Clients have good-naturedly consented to pose. We will periodically post photographs of buyers with their "stuff" either in the store or in their homes. You'll see folks from Richmond-- The Fan, Oregon Hill, West End, Far West End, across the river, North Side, Henrico, Goochland, Hanover, Petersburg, and north to Fairfax and down Williamsburg and Norfolk way. Our faithful keep coming back to Metro Modern to talk, to look, to make comparisons with other sources and eventually to select a keeper for a special place in their home. Eames aficionados love not only the hunting but the gathering stories they can tell friends. Miles Quillen desperately wanted an Eames Fiberglass Armchair. We happened to have two which needed some serious refurbishing. Miles was thrilled to give the chairs his tender loving care and he literally made them look new-- except for some strange tacking holes in the seats. Miles calls them "self-draining patio versions".
Loving very specific chairs is a constant source of focus and interest for Tron McLaughlin. While he loves all the chairs designed by Charles Eames, Tron found Gaetano Pesche's 543 Broadway # 2 Chair iconic and amusing because Pesche said the design "was a nod to both attitude and posture". Tron can sit and tip back in the chair all he wants because the chair accomodates flexibility.
Craig Coles loves interesting and unusual clocks and has become quite a collector over the years. When Craig first saw this clock, he said, "I don't need it", but thought this original 1959 George Nelson Sunburst would look perfect in his loft in Scott's Addition. He's placed it on his living room wall right across from his coveted 1950 2x2ESU.
Ned(4) and Martin(2) Gable may not really need an Arne Vodder desk just yet, but they sure like the idea of moving the floating drawer back and forth. Their parents, Eric and Rachel Gable think the desk will fit nicely into their Southside rancher and that the boys will soon grow to fit the desk.
