We are showcasing people who buy Midcentury at our store. Clients have good-naturedly consented to pose. We will periodically post photographs of buyers with their "stuff" either in the store or in their homes. You'll see folks from Richmond-- The Fan, Oregon Hill, West End, Far West End, across the river, North Side, Henrico, Goochland, Hanover, Petersburg, and north to Fairfax and down Williamsburg and Norfolk way. Our faithful keep coming back to Metro Modern to talk, to look, to make comparisons with other sources and eventually to select a keeper for a special place in their home. Half the fun is knowing who gets what, where it's going and and why. We genuinely appreciate having repeat customers and we are happy to meet new ones. We thank you. All of YOU create our success.
Todd Yoggy, as a masterful interior designer in Richmond, is able to articulate his clients' wants into spaces they love. When it comes to furnishing his own environment in Byrd Park, Todd is attracted to beautiful chrome, steel and lucite. He loves knowing every piece in his home has great visual appeal that serves multiple purposes. The Italian spun steel table he acquired is not only useful but has a light inside for ambience.
Carla and Larry Mathews, who live in Chester, thoroughly enjoyed buying this Seth Thomas Sunburst clock for their daughter, Sandy, who has a new home on the North Side. The Mathews also bought their daughter, Diane, a midcentury Danish bar and are intrigued with their daughters' avid interest in midcentury furnishings. The Mathews got the biggest kick from their little shopping spree.
Norman and Gay Leahy, along with their son, Jack, love the look of rich wood and thought the Arne Jacobsen Rosewood Coffee Table the perfect complement to their living room in their River Road home. The Leahys chose the table because it occupies little floor space while still looking beautiful. They loved the red ribbon, too!
Teresa Ballard and Norma Santamaria love the artisan jewelry they purchased. Both Teresa and Norma understand and appreciate well-made jewelry. Teresa especially loves native American turquoise and Norma, as owner of Baggio at Gayton Crossing, offers an extensive selection of exquisite designer clothing, shoes and accessories.
Dean Veith is extremely creative and has a great deal of experience in sales, marketing and merchandising for Saxon Shoes. As soon as Dean saw the Eero Saarinen small occasional tables, he bought them to put in his living room. He felt the tulip bases would not only occupy less floor space but present a spare, midcentury elegance.
Britni Dawson, a very busy and enthusiastic account executive at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, loved the whimsical pink birdcage and carousel design on the Raymor table lamp. She found a perfect place in her near West End home in which to showcase the lamp. Being frugal, Britni wants the lamp to not only shed light but to draw oohs and aahs.
Chris Stringer's wife Cheri liked the George Nelson Rolltop Desk at first sight. Chris was not sure how it would fit a specific space in their Hanover Avenue Fan house. The desk ultimately became the first piece of furniture in their newly renovated home. Son Jack is much more interested in how easily his toy cars slide along the desk surface.
Both Kelley and Mike Lear enjoy eclectic design--from French Art Deco to iconic Eames Era pieces in furnishing their home in the River Road corridor. Kelley wanted the Bertoia Wire Chairs to complement other chairs around the dining table. While Henry (on the left) thought the chairs suited him perfectly, Owen, having awakened from a nap, preferred Kelley's lap.
Jim Bulen, formerly from San Diego, California is now an attorney living in Washington, D.C. NW. His living environment has been carefully edited over several years to include superb original pieces by Florence Knoll and Carlo Bugatti. Jim thought this "Picasso"-like metal sculpture intriguing. He has found a perfect place for it on the upper floor landing of his townhouse. He loves the form and the fluidity his special "find" adds to his home environment.
Nell Ladd loved this Danish blue leather chair on first sight and thought it might fit into her home in Newport News. Nell and her husband, Joe, went home to measure to make sure the chair was the right size for the right space. Happily, the chair was just perfect and they came right back to pick it up.
