We are showcasing people who buy Midcentury at our store. Clients have good-naturedly consented to pose. We will periodically post photographs of buyers with their "stuff" either in the store or in their homes. You'll see folks from Richmond-- The Fan, Oregon Hill, West End, Far West End, across the river, North Side, Henrico, Goochland, Hanover, Petersburg, and north to Fairfax and down Williamsburg and Norfolk way. Our faithful keep coming back to Metro Modern to talk, to look, to make comparisons with other sources and eventually to select a keeper for a special place in their home. Half the fun is knowing who gets what, where it's going and and why. We genuinely appreciate having repeat customers and we are happy to meet new ones. We thank you. All of YOU create our success.
Cary and Lucy Schneider have a very modern custom-built house in Irvington, Virginia. Cary is reorganizing and editing his home office and wants all the small objects shelved and ordered. Once that is done, Cary will turn his desk to face the fabulous view of trees and water just outside his windows. He said he doesn't care if he gets any work done; he just wants to enjoy the scenery.
Tally and Jon Owen Evertson who live in The Fan, are very pleased with their selection of the Midland Clock/Radio. They bought the sputnik clock radio for their dad, Chris Evertson, as a Father's Day gift. Their mom, Jenesse Evertson thought their gift was not only fun but really useful.
This California 1950s realtor's sign has found an eye-stopping presence in David Bass's home at Manchester Lofts. David has an exquisitely curated collection of original Charles Eames and George Nelson furniture throughout his condo from an Eames Lounge and Ottoman, Nelson Bench, Nelson Swag Desk to a marvelous Eames House of Cards set. This original California sign adds both color and humor to his public space.
Brad Fry came down from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to spend a relaxing weekend with friends but still managed to do some mid century shopping. As a mid century dealer, he is pleased he found this vintage George Nelson Light Pendant. He really likes the texture of the lamp and the slight yellowing which comes after 40 years of aging.
Caroline Wright who is in charge of Development for the Visual Arts Center has a curator's eye for the beautiful and the unusual. She also had her eye on this Rose Sputnik for almost a year. Caroline's husband is sure his wife and daughters will find exactly the right location for this chandelier in their near West End home.
A long time client and newlywed, Bennett Tucker indulged his bride, Emily, when she told him she loved the look and feel of this newly refurbished Harvey Probber Tufted Sofa. The couple recently moved into their Boulevard home where Emily thinks the sofa adds a touch of glamour and great comfort to their living space.
These Milo Baughman Slipper Chairs appeal to Roger Adams for several reasons. He thinks they are comfortable and beautiful. The Baughman chairs also have a history. They were deaccessioned from Randolph-Macon College Library which originally contracted Thayer Coggin to provide all the Library's furniture. Coming full circle, Roger will later offer the pair of chairs to his daughter, Molly, because she graduated from Randolph-Macon. But first, Roger will enjoy the chairs in his Charlottesville home. How sweet is that!
From the Victoria and Albert Museum to Saachi Gallery to currently working as Modern Conservator at the MOMA, Roger Griffith is mad about chairs-- their design, their shapes and their construction. Roger fell in love with this petite polo chair attributed to Jacques Adnet for Hermes. He's not sure of placement in his NY home, but he loves his acquisition.
Jeff and Lyn Swallen moved from a home in the West End into a new home on Cary St. where they want to showcase some of their most loved Scandinavian pieces. They were pleased to find this Swedish DUX credenza can be used in their dining room where it will complement their Danish teak table and chairs.
Because Amy Kolbrener's husband is very tall, she selected this Florence Knoll Executive Desk & Return for their home office in Charlottesville. The desk has a large work surface at two levels, pivot space for a chair and generous leg room. Amy thinks her husband, Mark Hahn, will love this Florence Knoll Desk. She is giving him the "grown-up" desk he needs and also indulging the clean-line aesthetic he finds so pleasing.
