Ray Strong's plein air painting of the hills above Stinson, California captures the brief greening of the rolling California hills after spring rains. The town of Stinson Beach is in Marine County and close to Muir Woods. The oil painting on board shows the shifting afternoon sunlight caught with rapid brush strokes. Green, lavender, magenta and blended blue-gray suspend this realistic depiction of the hillside. Ray Strong is a listed California plein air painter currently owned by several museums including the Oakland Museum which owns three Ray Strong paintings. Original frame. Very good condition. Provenance of painting on verso.
