USA, 1953

The RAR or Rocking Armchair Rod is a classic modernist chair designed by Charles Eames in 1948. The prototype was designed for the Museum of Modern Art. This very rare rocker is a 1953 second generation Eames Rocking chair with the wires moved to the side of the rocker. Herman Miller outsourced production to Summits Plastics in Kalamazoo, Michigan that year and their logo is identified by a pair of overlapping triangles. This Parchment fiberglass Rocker's parts-- the shell, shock mounts, wire frame and birch runners are original to the chair and in pristine vintage condition. Raised Summit double triangle logo on underside of shell chair.
