Chile, 1990s
Sonia Etchart's wood box shows her characteristically painterly style portraying familiar flora and fauna of her country, Chile. Her style is whimsical with benign tropical forest animals and lush vegetation. This particular box portrays a young girl in a beautiful dress holding a small cat, serenely posing for the viewer while a large tiger and tropical bird sit at rest. Paint colors are layered, showing the richness of a dense tropical forest. Box can be displayed as art or function as art and container. Hand signed by artist. Excellent condition.
