Upon launching the
British Sceptre, the British Shipowners Company gifted Mrs. S.R.Graves with a sterling card case as thanks for naming the ship. Mrs. Graves' husband was one of the directors of the British Shipowners Company. The
British Sceptre was the fourth cargo ship built by Royden & Sons in Liverpool destined for Bombay, India. Front of case is heavily worked silver with an engraved cartouche detailing presentation to Mrs. Graves. Back of case depicts similar cartouche with image of
British Sceptre. Case opens to burgundy watered silk pockets. Card case comes with leather carrying case. Provenance provided by article written in
Liverpool Daily Post, 23rd April, 1868. Silversmith marks:
RT on both sides of case. Excellent vintage condition.
